Their Story

We honor our loved one, David “Rink” Rinkenberger, for his service to our country and for the man he was throughout his life. Dave was a proud Navy veteran, husband, father, grandfather, American Legion member, and Legion Rider. His Navy commendation spoke of his dedication, determination, and teamwork. Those same qualities stayed with Dave throughout his life. We are proud of the young sailor who served and the good man he remained.

“Dave served in the United States Navy from 1971 to 1975 aboard the USS Wiltsie, including time off the coast of Vietnam. He worked in the rear boiler room and reached the rank of E4. In 1974, Dave was commended for his part in helping the Engineering Department earn an award for excellence. Many years later, he developed mesothelioma, which the VA recognized as connected to his military service. We will always be proud of his service.”
