Their Story

Earl Orr is my father. He and my Mom had 9 children together. He didn’t talk about his years in the Navy much until he was about 70 years old, when he wrote an autobiography of his life. A good share of his book was about his years in the Navy, he served on the USS Patoka. After he wrote the book, he started to talk about his Navy years more.. Dad took advantage of the GI Bill to attend the University of MN. He got a science degree and was a beloved biology teacher in Benson, MN for 32 years.

“Just days before Dad passed away at the age of 93, all nine of us kids were by his side at the hospital. For two days he told stories, non stop, of his Navy days. I will forever remember how happy he was to share all those Navy stories with all of us kids!”
