Their Story

John served in the Navy as a MM2c in WWII, from 1942-1946, on the USS Quincy & USS Cincinnati. He reenlisted as a Reservist in 1947 & served active duty in the Korean War 1950-1952 on USS Evans.

John had deep faith & loved Jesus. He lived out his faith serving others. He & his wife had foster children, he was a church elder, visited hospitalized people, & served as a union steward at work. John had a heart for the least & lost, leaving a legacy of faith, compassion, & service to God & others.

“John started a food shelf at his church, purchasing supplies, managing inventory, distributing food, and delivering groceries to those unable to come in person—even in difficult neighborhoods.

But John did more than meet people’s needs. He took the time to know them—their names, their stories, and their struggles. He loved them, welcomed them with hugs, and treated each person with genuine care & dignity. He didn’t just give out food; he gave of himself. He served with his hands & his heart.”
