Their Story

Roy served his country during World War 2 and fought in the Ardennes and Rhineland campaigns. He was wounded during combat while providing aid to another Soldier. He served honorably and was discharged on April 13, 1946. After returning home to Minnesota, he met and married my grandmother. Never having children of their own, together they opened their home and fostered numerous disadvantaged children over many years including both of my parents. After retirement hey moved to Hackensack, MN.

“My grandpa was an avid golfer and hunter. During his last few years of life, I recall how much I enjoyed spending time with him during deer hunting season. He was a kind and gentle man who was always quick with jokes. He cared for his land and valued sharing. I have especially fond memories of helping him collect and boil maple syrup. He also collected and polished agates. What I really miss was how he always included me in his hobbies and showed me I was loved and important to him.”
